2022 Nigerian Athletics Championships: Usoro wins 1st ever National title after six attempts

Nigeria’s triple jump record holder, Ruth Usoro has won her first ever National Championship title at the Nigerian Athletics Championships taking place at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City .

 

Ruth Usoro set the National record in the Triple Jumps events at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Lubbock in 2021 with a record of 14.36m, the record holder soared to her first ever national title with a Season’s Best (SB) of 14.11m.

 

The win is Ruth Usoro’s second attempt at the triple jump events at the National Championship, her fist was at the 2017 National where she won Bronze.

 

Onaara Obamuwagun, who won the 2020 NJCAA triple jump title came second with a distance of 13.15m while the women’s High Jump defending Champion Esther Isa placed 3rd with a leap of 13.14m.

 

Ruth Usoro will be hoping to represent Nigeria at next month’s World Championships and Commonwealth Games taking place in Oregon and Glasgow respectively.
