Mayar Sherif makes Egyptian tennis history


Five months after becoming the first female Egyptian to qualify for the main draw of the French Open, 24-year-old Mayar Sherif, has become the first-ever Egyptian to compete in the Australian Open main draw after defeating Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic.


Sequel to her qualification, the rising star played three qualifiers, defeating Japan’s Akiko Omae [6-0, 6-1] in just 50 minutes, in her second match, she struggled against American Grace Min but won the game [6-3, 2-6, 6-1, to set up a final round meeting with Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic


[6-1, 6-2] were the score of the two sets as the Egyptian overpowered the Serbian.


Currently ranked 128th, Mayar Sherif, is the first Egyptian to qualify for the 2021 Olympics games
