Africa’s number one ping ponger, Aruna, was hoping to replicate his scintillating quarter-final performance six-years ago in Düsseldorf.

Ranked 20th in the world, Aruna, was shocked by Slovenia’s Darko Jorgic, 4-2; (11-4, 8-11, 10-12, 12-10, 11-8, 11-4), on the first day of Dishang 2020 ITTF Men’s World Cup.

Darko Jorgic , became the first Slovenian to hit a ball at the ITTF Men World Cup.

The 36-year-old second game in Group C is number 11 seed  and Germany’s Patrick Franziska, who defeated the Nigerian 4-1 (11-9, 11-5, 11-8, 12-14, 11-8).

In the deciding match, the Slovenian and German face-off to determine who gets to the round 16 with Patrick Franziska storming to victory, 4-0 (11-6, 11-5, 11-6, 11-6) over the Slovenian debutant.

Sadly, for Aruna, he is unable to proceed to the knockouts on his sixth appearance at the Men’s World Cup.
