It is just four days into the year 2020 and two days earlier , Africa number one table tennis player, Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri is trending positively and hereby putting Nigeria on the global map as usual, the first Nigerian to do so this year.

On the second of January , the International Table Tennis Federation released the monthly world ranking for the month of January  and according to the World ranking details , The 31 -year-old player moved from 20th ranked player in December to become the 18th ranked player in the world in January ranking , and the only Africa player to be in the top ranked 20 players , with Egypt’s Omar Assar ranked 29 with 6625 points and the second Africa player .

Moreso, this is not the first time, Aruna is ranked 18th (the highest in his career), In August 2018, the Oyo born player was ranked 18th position after climbing from 20th position in July.

Furthermore , What is worth celebrating is that  in an Asia dominated sport, Africa has found a lone representation in the top 20 players through Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri .

In details, the first ten ranked players are dominated by Asia and Europe, with seven players from Asia while the remaining three are Europeans; Top ranked four players are Chinese, the fifth is from Japan, while sixth and seventh is from Chinese Tapei and Brazil.

The Eighth ranked player is Falck Mattias from Sweden, with China’s Liang Jingkun and German Legend, Boll Timo occupying the ninth and tenth position respectively.

In likewise manner, from the eleventh position to twentieth, the Asians claimed seventh spots, while the Europe has two spots , with Africa getting only one spot through Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri , who is ranked 18th .

With few months to Tokyo 2020 and if the steady growth continues , Aruna might be on the brink of another record at the Olympics .
