Assar beats Chuang, becomes second African to reach quarter finals

Table Tennis Star, Egypt’s Omar Assar has become the first Egyptian and second African to get to the quarterfinals of the Olympics after beating world no.27 Yuan Chih Chuang of Chinese Taipei 4-3 in single men’s round of 16 at the Tokyo Games .

The 30-year-old joined Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri to become the second African player to achieve the feat, at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, Aruna Quadri became the first African player to reach the quarterfinals of the Olympics in the history of the Olympics.

In the quarterfinals, Omar will face world no.3 and defending Champion, Ma Long of China.
