Day 2 : Shock exit for fourth seed David Fayele


Edo’s Sunday Ayodele, a total outsider, caused the biggest upset on the second day of play, Friday 6 May, at the Gymnastics Hall of the Aso Table Tennis National Championship in Abuja.

Competing in the Round 64, he beats 2014 Asoju Oba Champion, David Fayele representing Lagos state, the four seed, (20-18, 11-5, 15-13) to go through to Round 32 .

The result is a unexpected defeat for David , who conquered his conqueror at the 2020 National Sports in the Round of 16 .

Comprehensive performance was also recorded in Table 3 as 2021 Aso Cadet silver medallist , Abdulfatai Abdulbasit of Kwara state defeated Osedunkwu Joseph of Gombe 3-0 (11-7 , 11-8 , 11-8 )

Unexpected outcomes, it was not different in the women’s category as Akeem Sadiat representing Oyo defeated Lagos’s Oyeniyi Kehinde 3-2 .

Meanwhile , the Round 32 and 16  of the women and men’s singles is ongoing , while the junior category will commence soon .
