Dina Meshref makes History


Before Africa table tennis star, Dina Meshref defeated Poland’s Natalia Partyka, the no.47 seed (15-13, 10-12, 11-9, 11-4, 7-11, 13-11) to become the first player from Africa and the first from an Arabic speaking country to reach the third round of the women’s singles event at an Olympic Games, no female player from Africa has reached the third round since the inception of the sport in Seoul 88.


The 26-year-old, who has been unbeaten in Africa for the last four years lost to Netherlands’ Britt Eerland in the round of 32 (: 9-11 3-11 7-11 11-6 11-5 11-8 11-7).


Meanwhile, her compatriot, Omar Assar, who also made history to become the second Africa player to reach the quarterfinals of the Olympics lost to no.2 seed, Ma Long , (11-7, 11-9, 11-6, 11-13, 11-6).


The defeat means that all Africa Table tennis  players are out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic .
