The winner of the maiden edition of Lagos Women Run , Olude Fadekemi , has revealed to Wildflowers the reason behind her non-participation in subsequent editions of the annual Women Marathon , Olude , who became the first Nigeria female to cross the finish line at the maiden Onitsha City Marathon said other top female distance runners were also victims of the decision by the organisers .
The Athlete , whose record at the Lagos Women Run stood for two years until Rose Akusho from Plateau State broke and set a new record in 2018 in 34 minutes , 35.07 seconds , said the decision of the organisers is against the international rule that governs the sport.
Olude , who became the first female athlete to represent Nigeria at the 20km events in an international circuits , finished 10th in 1:49:31 secs at the 2018 Commonwealth games in Gold Coast said the coordinator of the event want new faces to win the event and asked the prominent participant not to partake anymore .
In total disbelief when she got the information , she said it was unbelievable because it is against international practice , she further made enquiry to Chairman of the Organising Committee , who confirmed the reports that previous winners and prominent participants will longer participate at the annual events .
Olude Fadekemi, at 2 hours, 55 minutes, and 16 seconds, was the first Nigerian female to cross the finish line at the 2017 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon
