China’s Li Xue Rui , 28 , has announced retirement from the Sport that brought her so much fame .  In 2013 ,  Li won the BWF Female player of the year .

Her last major event was the Korea Open in September 2019 , when she retired from her first round match against Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi trailing 21-15 , 11-3 .

During her 12 years glorious career , Li Xue won 14 Superseries , Gold medal at the 2012 Olympics , numerous Gold and silver medals at the Surdiman , Uber Cup . In 2008  , she won the Junior Champion in the mixed team event , same year , the former number one won the Asian Junior Championship in both the mixed team and girls’ singles .

In her bid to defend the title she won in London ,  Li suffered injuries to her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her defeat to former number one and Spain Carolina Marin , which made the her withdraw from her bronze medal match against Japanese Nozomi Okuhara .

Li will fondly be remembered for her 2010 Badminton Asia Championship , when as a 19-year-old , defeated Saina Nehwal and compatriort Liu Xin on her way to win the title .

On 17 October 2019 , Li Xue Rui announced her retirement but she will be remembered as one the greatest female Badminton player .
