A club full of stars, on Wednesday 19th at the National Table Tennis Championship in the Indoor Sports Hall of Tesim Balogun stadium in Lagos, G20 club of Abuja provided sufficient evidence that it would do well at the championship by winning the women’s team event Gold and the first Gold of the championship.
National Sports Festival Champion, Fatimo Bello alongside the duo of Esther Oribamise and Halima Ayinla defeated Lagos Women’s team of Bose Odunsanya, Akinsete Bose and Kehinde Oyeniyi 3-2 to win the women’s team event of the Championship.
In contrast, the remaining title of the day went to the men’s team representing Ondo with Mati Taiwo and Amadi Omeh taking the center state, providing the opposition in the final hurdle for G20 is Ahmed Bello who lost 2-3 (11-7, 6-11, 11-8, 6-11, 8-11) to National Sports Festival Champion, Amadi Omeh.
A showpiece of the final of the ASO Table Tennis Championship between Azeez Solanke and Mati Taiwo was in full display in the fourth match with the latter avenging his defeat in Abuja with a 3-2 win (5-11 ,9 -11, 11-8, 12-10,14-16) to give his team 2-2 advantage after trailing 2-0.
The Ondo men’s team won the Gold at the National Sports Festival in Edo defeating Azeez Solanke, Ahmed Bello, who then represented Rivers State.
