Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei is the now the fastest man in the history of the 10KM race , the 23-year-old broke the previous record held by Kenyan’s Leonard Patrick Komon at 26:44 in 2010 .

Joshua , who made his intention of breaking the 10KM record known on October 15 in an interview through Marathon Valencia on twitter has just set a new 10KM record in 26:38 making the Ugandan to become the fastest man in the history of the 1oKM race .

The 23-year-old set the new record of 26:44 at the 39th Valencia Marathon Trindad Alfonso EDP

At the World Championship in Doha , Joshua Cheptegei made history by wining the 10,000m Gold ahead of Etiophia’s Yomif Kelejlcha and was among the five finalists for the Male Athlete of the year by the World Athletics.

Cheptegei’s average pace was two minutes and 40 seconds per kilometre in Valencia, passing through 5km in 13 minutes 24 seconds.

“I knew that Valencia was going to be a really fast course, one of the fastest in the world. So to get to achieve what we came here for is something really special.” Cheptegei said .
