Kaduna State would hold her first maiden marathon in November this year as disclosed yesterday in stakeholders’ meeting by the chairman on the committee for competition, Jimi Lawal.
Lawal, who is the Senior Adviser and Counselor to Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai said the marathon is in furtherance of the Governor’s commitment to revive and develop sports in the state .
“The race is strictly a community affair and it requires the active involvement of the stakeholders “said Lawal, as he seeks the commitment of all stakeholders for a hitch free marathon.
The race according to report is expected to host no fewer than one hundred thousand participants, which includes m youth mostly from higher educational institutions while other senior citizens are expected to participate in the race.
On his part, the Commissioner of Youths and Sports , Professor Kabir Mato , said the race would create health living and strengthened bonding among communities in the state.
He further said that the race would be an annual event as practiced in Lagos and United Kingdom.
The marathon would witness the 5k , 10k and 21km race as the event starting point and finish line would be the famous Muritala Square .
Registration forms is expected to cost N5,000 for adults while persons below the age of 18 would pay N3,000 and it is free for participants from 65 year and above.
Prizes would be awarded to top 10 male and female local and internationals Athletes.
