Baguada Kaltho Press Center in Alausa herald the fifth edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon with the organisers aiming to extend its frontiers to set new records .

According to Nilayo Sports Manangment , the Marathon Consultant , Access Bank Lagos City is the first race to achieve Silver label within four years of commencement .

A first also for Marathons across the globe  , is the acquisition of a Marathon Village by Access Bank Lagos City Marathon before Febuary 8 ,the date of the fifth edition .

Moreover , because of the new status , there will be re-measurement , re-calibration of the route and introduction of excellent performance prize money in the men’s category .

In the quest to join the global elites of IAAF Gold label Races, the management has decide to procure additional six sets of transpondant has mandated by the World Athletics in order to be eligible for an IAAF Gold Label .

For the first ever Silver Label Marathon in West Africa , invites have been extended to 30 Gold and 25 Silver Label runners to participate with Australia and Peru making a debut in 2020 .

In terms of numbers , the race has over 323,000 runners since the inaugural edition and it has become a qualifying  events for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the Marathon events .

Highlighting the benefits of the race to the economy of Lagos city , Bukola Olopade stated that since 2016 , the Marathon has provided employment for thousands of Lagosians  across the industries .

He further said the annual race has boosted tourism with the influx of foreign runners into the country yearly resulting to high earning in the hospitality sector , promising that the good trend will continue in the fifth edition .

The 2020 Edition will witness a powerful delegation from world governing body of the Ultra Run to be led by its President with more than 20 Athletics Federation Presidents from different part of the world indicating interest  .

No Nigerian has won the 42km race and in a bid to encourage the culture of running in the country , there is an increased prize money for Nigerian winners , which includes two cars for the first male and female runners in the 10km race .

For the first time also  , all runners will wear transpondant chips with  the annual Marathon Expo taking place at the Telsim Balogun Stadium , there will definitely be a world class marathon next year .

To achieve and sustain the records set there will be an intensive media campaign to encourage Lagosians to participate and cheer the runners .

Just in its fourth edition , the race has placed the city of Lagos with a reported population of one hundred and twenty million citizens on the global map , and a tourists’ destination annually .

The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon is one of the most eagerly awaited events on the World Athletics/AIMS marathons and road races calendar by top marathoners , coaches ,athlete managers , representatives and lovers of Marathon .
