Lagos, Kaduna and Edo still hold the ace in Cricket


Lagos owns the bragging right as the home of Cricket in Nigeria but during competitions , Edo and Kaduna are worthy mention as power house.


At the final of the 19th Edition of the National Sports Festival, Kaduna and Lagos renewed their bitter rivalry, which can date back to decades, the final, which was tagged CLASH OF THE TITANS was a revenge platform for Kaduna, who narrowly lost the final of the 18th Edition to Lagos on technical ground in 2012.


But surprisingly, after so much pressure on Lagos, Sylvester Okpe lost his wicket and no batsman could anchor with Daniel Gim to build a partnership that will get Kaduna over the line.


Again, Kaduna lost with Lagos’ Seye Olympio as the best performer with the bat with 29 runs of 34 balls .


Anambra won the bronze medal by 2 wickets defeating TEAM FCT .


At the maiden female cricket competition at the National Sports in Abuja, Edo state won Gold while Jigawa and Lagos took home the silver and bronze medal respectively .


To prove their mettle, at the Boys zonal qualification across 6 zones for National Under 17 Cricket Championship powered by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).


Kaduna State emerged champion in North West zone defeating Jigawa, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kano to maintain 100% record in the zone.


It was a tough decider in the South South zone, still Edo came out unscratched throughout the series defeating Akwa Ibom in the final.


In the Southwest Zone, most often times, the rivalry is always between Ogun and Lagos state, at the umpteenth time, it is the latter that reigns supremely, the final was no different.


Kwara State won the North central zone, while Anambra retains champions status in the Southeast.


In the Northeast , Gombe state won a playoff game to complete the zonal qualification series in the Boys category.
