Lagos and Kaduna are among the contingent, who arrived early for the sixth edition of the National Youth games taking place at the Sport Complex of University of Ilorin , other states , who has arrived includes Delta , who is the defending champion of the competition , Kebbi , FCT , Benue , Bayelsa , Kano , Anambra and Sokoto.
According to the schedule of the games, 10th and 11th are arrival days, while 12th, Wednesday, is for the screening of athletes.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere at the venue is in competition mood as more states are expected, the Director, Grassroots Sports Development, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (FMYSD), Bode Durotoye, disclosed in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, in Ilorin , that a total of 3,926 athletes are expected to grace the games, with 431 coaches, 555 state delegates, and 168 other officials.
“We have put all things in place and are looking forward to a competition we will all be proud of. A lot of planning has gone into this and we will be seeing the best of grassroots sports in Ilorin next week,” he said.
The Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare , is expected to declare the event .
The 6th National Youth Games has been scheduled for October 10 -19.
