After two weeks of intense battle in Melbourne the 2020 Australia Open has come to an end in the women’s category after 21-year-old American Sofia Kenin defeated two-time Grand Slam winner , Spain’s Garbine Muguruza 4-6 6-2 6-2 .

The victory make her the youngest Australia Open Champion since Russian Maria Sharapova in 2008 .

Sofia , who turned 21 in November is the eighth first-time women champion to lift trophy in the previous 12 Slams in Melbourne .

“Dreams come true. If you have a dream then go for it – it will come true.

“These two weeks have been the best two weeks of my life.”

“It is such an honour and privilege to be here. Thank you so much. I would like to thank the crowd, this past two weeks has been the best of my life!

“And last but not least, my team, my dad, thank you for making this possible – I can’t believe we are here today, we worked so hard. My mum, back home probably watching, so I love you mum! We really worked hard and I am so grateful for this. Thank you so much.”

Born in Moscow , Kenin is the youngest American since Serena Williams in 2008 to lift a Grand Slam and will be reaching her highest career ranking in next week ranking .
