World Number one Rafael Nadal has becomes the first member of the big three to crash out of the Australia Open .
The Spaniard was defeated by young Dominic Thiem 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 7-6 (8-6) at Melbourne Park.
In his quest for his 20TH Grand Slam title and second Australia Open title, the Spaniard succumbed to the fifth seed Austrian Dominic Thiem in the quarter finals of the Australian Open.
Meanwhile the Austrian is living up to the tag of as one of the younger players that will break into the big three of Nadal , Novak and Federer as he displayed a tough mentality in four hours and ten minutes to secure his first hardcourt victory over the Spaniard .
Out of the 19TH Grand Slam title with Nadal , he has only one Australia Open title in his cabinet , which he won eleven years ago , defeating Roger Federer 7–5, 3–6, 7–6 (7–3), 3–6, 6–2 to become the first Spaniard to win the tournament .
“I don’t give up one moment during the match, ‘’ Nadal said during the press conference.
“I gave myself an opportunity until the last moment, so I’m happy for that, because my level of concentration and tennis was better, I think. My tennis was not bad at all — it was difficult to play against him .
Nadal’s quest for his twentieth Grand Slam will have to wait still the Roland Garros where he is invisible .
