The ongoing 6th National Youth Game at the University of Ilorin ,Kwara state , has witnessed new champions in various events but some state has enjoyed dominance in certain sports . From gymnastics to squash , some team has reigned supremely in some sports at the National Youth games since inception of the youth games .
As the Squash events comes to a close on Monday , the Lagos team has continued reign supremely in the sport .
Dominion Utukpe of Team Lagos has retained the Gold medal he won in 2019 after defeating Anthony Monday of Delta 3-0 ,(11-5,11-1,11-7) .
it was the exact opposite in the girls’ final as team Lagos was unable to defend the title they won in 2019 when when Dominion’s sister , Favoiur Utukpe overcame 2018 first runners-up , Chidinma Orji from Abia State 3-2 ( 11-8 , 7-11 , 11-5 , 9-11 , 11-8 , ) to win the girls’ singles and surpass her bronze medal achievement at the fourth edition .
Bidemi Olatunji , cousin to Nigeria queen of Squash , Yemisi Olatunji , was out powered by Kwara’s Mistura Durosilorun after winning the first set 11-6 but eventually lost 3-1 (11-7,11-5,11-9) to win the silver medal .
The silver medalist was part of the silver wining team that lost to Abia team in 2019 , which was led by Favour Utukpe , other member of the team includes Yusuf Tekiat .
Squash events concludes tomorrow , Monday , 18th , with the team events .
