Three of Lagos’ brightest talents celebrated title success on an exciting final day of the table tennis events of the sixth National Youth games taking place at the University of Ilorin, Kwara state.

Matthew Kuti  , Aisha Rabiu and her doubles partner Akanbi Taiwo were  notable names for  team lagos  after winning the boys’ singles and girls’ doubles event on Monday ,18th October.

Worthy of mention is Tijani Razaq , who finished without a medal in 2019 to win Gold in the Para boys’ event .

The highest ranked competitor in the boys’ event , Matthew Kuti  survived a tense final against  Kwara’s Abdulfatai as he held off a brave challenge from his fierce competitor (11-7 ,11-7,1-11,11-9) , through to the title decider , Kuti weathered an storm in semifinal to see off Bayelsa’ John Matthew 2-1 (5-11,11-6,11-9) .

The duo of Aisha Rabiu and Akanbi Taiwo also emerged as the Girls’ doubles champion after beating Oyo’s doubles partner Ahmed  Aishat and Sheed Hawau 3-1 (11-7,11-7,-9,11-2) .

In the boys’ doubles, it was team Kwara that emerged champion   to see off the fantastic duo of Bayelsa’s John Matthew and Udoh Sunday 3-2,the team  also won the mixed doubles gold to come second on the medal table as team Lagos settled for the silver medal .

Cross River’s only medal came in the girls’ singles when Hope Udoka defeated team Oyo’s Ayoola Kabirat 3-1 while the bronze medal went to Rabiu Aishat and Akanbi Taiwo of Team Lagos .

The Para Girls’singles event was won by Okafor precious of teamDelta , which was their only medal at the table tennis events  .

The sixth National Youth games  ends tomorrow , the 19th October , with the closing ceremony .
