Novak Djokovic has become the King of Melbourne after wining his eighth Australian Open title , seven more than Spaniard Rafael Nadal and two ahead of 20th Grand Slam title holder , Swiss Roger Federer .
The Sebian defeated Dominic Thiem 6-4 4-6 2-6 6-3 6-4 in three-hour, 59-minute final to take his Grand Slam title to 17 .
Djokovic , 32 , has never lost a finale in Melbourne and for the second time in his career , he defending his title successfully after doing the same in 2012 and 2013 .
On the other side of the court, 25-year-old Dominic Thiem still await his first grand slam title after losing the previous two to Nadal at the French Open.
Moreover, Thiem has been tipped to be the player that will break the Strong hold of the trio of Djokovic , Nadal and Federer but it seems the wait will be longer .
No other player has won the Grand Slam since Stan Wawrinka won the US Open title in September 2016 .
“I came from literally nothing and difficult life circumstances together with my family and with my people,” said the eighth Grand Slam Champion , who will return as World Number by Monday to overtake Rafael Nadal
