African Legend, Segun Toriola will be competing at the forthcoming 2020 ITTF World Team Qualification Tournament, which will commence on Wednesday 22 January in Portugal with the hope of becoming the first table tennis player to feature in eighth Olympic.
Toriola, whose first Olympics participation was twenty-eight years ago in Barcelona, At the Rio Olympics , he joined the Elites Club of Table Tennis Players like Croatia’s Zoran Primorac, Belgium’s Jean-Michel Saive and Sweden’s Jörgen Persson to participate in seven Olympics Games.
The 45-year-old is hoping to set a new world record at the World Team Qualification Tournament in Portugal, his greatest achievement was in Beijing in 2008 when he reached the last 16.
The events, which serves as a qualification event for the 2020 Olympics Games in Tokyo will feature thirty-four male and thirty female team as Nigeria is seed 14 in the men ‘s team and 27 in the women’s event.
Other Nigerian Table Tennis Players at the World Team Qualification Tournament includes Quadri Aruna, Bode Abiodun, Olajide Omotayo, Taiwo Mati, Olufunke Oshonaike, Fatimo Bello, Offiong Edem, Ajoke Ojomu and Cecila Akpan.
