Slim chance for local players in D’Tigers Olympic squad – Babs Ogunade

The vice president of Nigeria Basketball Federation Babs Ogunade has stated emphatically that there is a slim chance for Professional Basketball Players playing in the domestic league to be part of the forthcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

In an interview with the Punch, Ogunade said it would be ridiculous to invite players who had been inactive for over three years for the trip to Tokyo.

“There have been calls that local players must be included in D’Tigers for the Olympics. It is a ridiculous argument for a player from the Nigerian league to be listed after being inactive for three years.

“We look at the players who approach us, and we select based on the best of them in order to make our team stronger, and FIBA rules allow us to do that.”

Ogunade further gave reasons why the local based players would not make it for the trip to Tokyo.

It’s an honest opinion from the vice president Ogunade. But are this young local home grown Nigerian basketball players will be given the opportunity to attend training with the Olympic team? If they are excluded how will the home grown have the experience? My thought
