Ahead of the World Championships regional qualification, African Club Championships, and African Cup, taking place from May 19 to 28 at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, the president of Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Engr. Ishaku Tikon is optimistic that Nigeria team will make the nation proud.
Given the continued dominance of Nigeria at regional championships, Tikon, Speaking to our correspondent at the final day of the National trials in Lagos, says the federation is aware that other countries won’t relent in their efforts to take over from Team Nigeria but the deputy President of the ITTF Africa Western Region is optimistic that Team Nigeria is battle ready.
“we have been awarded and allocated the hosting rights of three major events, we have the African Club Championships, World Championships regional qualification and the African Cup, I see this as a very serious business, there is therefore a need for us to prepare very seriously so that they shouldn’t come to our country and put us to shame even though we have been dominating of recent but then we cannot sit down and think yesterday will be like tomorrow “

The World Championships regional qualification for West Africa teams will kick-start the tournament on May 19 to 21 while the African Club Championships follow on May 23 to 25. The African Cup which is a singles tournament will climax the event on May 26 to 28.
