Two of Nigeria’s foremost distance runners, Emmanuel Gyan and Sadjo Ismael’s hope of participating in the newly introduced 10km and winning the star prize of a saloon car donated by GAC Motors has being dashed.

The Organisers of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon in a mail sent yesterday has bar elite runner in Nigeria and outside the country from participating in the 10-kilometre race which starts at the foot of the Ikoyi-Lekki Link Bridge and ends at Eko Atlantic City.

According to Olukayode Thomas, Director Communications and Media, Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, elite athletes from Nigeria or any other part of the world are not eligible.

Also, ineligible are fun runners who are not resident in Nigeria but other nationals like English, Americans, Asians who live and work in Nigeria are eligible to participate in the 10 kilometers family race.

This is done so that fun runners and road runners can achieve their potential and the habit of distance race will be encouraged amongst Nigeria .it is a grassroot initiative where talents in distance race can be discovered and nurtured.

It is one of the best decisions the Organisers has taken since Access Bank Lagos City Marathon commenced in 2016.
