The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation has began preparation for the 2018 Commonwealth games in Gold coast , Australia .
The federation , who had the most peaceful election and transition process during the election into the Boards of National Sports Federation on June 13 , 2017 in Abuja has rolled out plans for the XXI Commonwealth games commonly known as Gold Coast 2018 .
The President of the federation, Engr. Ishaku Tikon has promised to make Gold Coast 2018 , a memorable one.
He assured the players of a level playing ground in their quest to represent their fatherland .
He further encourages the players to be of good manners during the camping exercise .
The 2017 National Championship and the selection trials for the Commonwealth games will begin on 12th of December, while the camping program is in two phases.
This is done to accommodate all players irrespective of their base and clubs’ activities.
The first phase will be on the 17th of December to 16th of January , 2018 . while the second phase will start on the 17th of January 2018 and end on the 16th of February .
Camps will be opened in Lagos , Abuja and Port Harcourt .
A dope test , which is an out of competition test will be conducted on the 17th of February .
Nigeria will be participating in nine sports at the Commonwealth games in Gold coast , which includes Athletics , Para-Athletics , Weightlifting , Boxing , Table Tennis , Para -Table Tennis, Basketball , Para – Power Weightlifting and Wrestling .
Nigeria has competed at thirteen Commonwealth Games, from 1950 with the exception of four Games, in 1962, 1978,1986 and 1998.
Nigeria has won at least one medal at every Games attended, including a high of thirty-seven in 1994.
