Tiger Woods is my role model – Maryanne Udoka


The game of Golf does not have large followership in Nigeria but nevertheless there are individuals and groups of persons, who has dedicated their life to the sports and they are reasons why we write and talk about the sports in Nigeria, it is even more difficult to see a Nigerian lady playing Golf but above all her love of the sports has propelled Maryanne Udoka till date.

Maryanne Udoka, Uloma Mbuko and the young Georgia Oboh are few of the popular lady golfers in the country that has made the game prominence among Nigerian women. Maryanne Udoka started playing the golf in 2017 but her rise to prominence is a result of her love for the game in addition to daily practice.

Maryanne, who hails from Akwa Ibom represented Nigeria in the golf tournaments organized by Nigerians in United Kingdom last year, just few days ago, the Ibom Golf Club presented a two days tournament in celebration of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s victory in the last gubernatorial election, the tournament which attracted 160 golfers in Nigeria was an eventful and historical tournament for Maryanne Udoka. The light skinned lady won the Best Net in the female category and the longest drive female award.

In a chat with WildFlower, the celebrity golfer revealed that Tiger Wood is her role model and she gave her reasons.

“It is because he has a story just like mine. At the time he went down in his career, his friends left him while he was in a rehabilitation center, many never believed him again, to the surprise of everybody around the globe, and he made a great comeback and started wining again. He never relented when he fell”
