Uganda Police Officer breaks world 5km record in Monaco

Pending the usual ratification procedures by the officials of World Athletics , Uganda Police Officer and winner of the 10,000m race in Doha , Joshua Cheptegei  has set a new record  at the 5km  race in Monaco Run

The 23-yer-old Ugandan finished in 2 minutes 51 seconds to smash the previous record set by Kenyan’s  Rhonex Kipruto .

“I had sub-13 minutes in my mind so when my legs felt good I decided to really go for it,” said Cheptegai.

Jimmy Gressier of France finished second in 13:18 while Nick Goolab , who came third in 13:27 set a British record .

The 5km race was wasn’t an official world record event until 2017
