WTT : Quadri defeated , legendary status intact


In the first official WTT Contender Series, Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri is the first African to reach the quarter-final of the brand-new identity and high value entertainment appeal of the World Table Tennis in Doha.


On Friday, the 31-year-old, lost 3-1 (8-11, 9-11, 17-15, 9-11) to Chinese Taipei ‘s Yun-Ju Lin, who is world number seven in the global order.


The Nigerian had earlier taken down Portugal’s Joao Geraldo 3-2 (10-12, 12-10, 12-10, 4-11, 11-6) in an explosive encounter to set the Africa record.


Playing against newly crowned India champion on his debut, Aruna recorded a straight win over Sathiyan Gnanasekaran 3-0 (11-7, 11-4,11-8) in a display of strength, speed and scintillating artistry.


The TTC RhönSprudel Maberzell Fulda player is also Africa’s most successful Olympic table tennis player of all time after his incredible feat at the Rio Olympics for becoming the first Africa to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Olympics.
