Usman Okanlawon flying Nigeria’s flag high in Tunis

2021 Aso Table Tennis National Championship: Usman Okanlawon still full of confidence


Winner of the U-15 category in 2017, participating for the second time at the annual Aso Table Tennis National Championship, but in his debut at the junior and senior category, Usman Okanlawon popularly known as “per plate “is still full of confidence as he was in 2019 when he won the boys’ singles title at the ITTF World Hopes Challenge in Oman.


Seeded 10, the Oyo state born player hopes to win the Junior title and make an impression in the senior category as he did in at the 2019 ITTF Challenge Nigeria Open in Lagos where he finished second behind India’s Sudanshu Grover in the group stage.


Notably during the group stage of proceedings, he defeated Amadi Omeh, the EDO 2020 Men’s Singles National Champion (9-11, 11-5, 11-8, 3-11, 12-10) to the delight of the fans.


Few weeks ago, in his first National Sports Festival, Usman lost 3-0 to Rasheed Balogun in Round of 32 , today in his first senior game at the Aso Tournament  , Usman would face his conqueror in Edo.
