The President of Aso Table Tennis Club, Dr Olusegun Ajuwon, OON, has advocated for more table tennis tournaments and competitions in the country to keep the players more active and exposed.
Ajuwon, who is an Endocrinologist made the appeal at the Press conference to herald the 14th Aso Table Tennis Club National Championship, according to the former personal physician to former President Olusegun Obasanjo , Ajuwon stated that the lack of competitions can discourage players.
“One fact needs to be stressed and that is if one leaves table tennis, the sport will also leave that person
So, it is very important to advocate for more tournaments and competitions in the country, currently the country is somewhat lacking in the numbers of competitions available to keep our players actively engaged and exposed and I am appealing for an improvement in this regard.”
Ajuwon explains that the cost of organizing and sponsoring a tournament is not as high as widely speculated and there is a need for prominent members of the society to take up the challenge.
“The cost of organizing and sponsoring such tournaments are not too high. I am appealing to our politicians, Ministers, State governors, LGA chairmen and Industrialists to take up this challenge.
“I am certain the NTTF would be ready to partner with such efforts “
The 14th Edition of the annual Aso Table Tennis Club National Championship would start on Tuesday 4 May at Package B Indoor Complex National Stadium , Abuja .
