Nigeria’s Para Badminton player , Eniola Bolaji has received an award of recognition by the Badminton Confederation Africa (BCA) for her extraordinary achievement in 2021 when she made history as the first African athlete to win gold in a para badminton event in an international championship .
On her debut international championship , the Kwara based player defeated Oksana Kozyna of Ukraine 18-21, 21-14, 21-18 at the final of the 2021 Spanish Para Badminton International Championship in Cartagena .
Eniola Bolaji honored by Badminton Confederation Africa
This is the second award of recognition in three years for the Nigeria Badmintion Federation by the continental ruling body , three years ago , former Badminton player and a board member of the Nigeria Badminton Federation , Obiageli Solaja , was named the 2019 African Women in Badminton Award winner .
The President of Nigeria Badminton Federation , Francis Orbih , who was called upon by the continental governing body to receive the award on behalf of the player thanked the Badminton Confederation Africa and dedicated the award to her late coach, Banji Bello on behalf of the player .
Francis Orbih , who was emotional while receiving the award said the award was a good omen to the restart of badminton activities in the country, which generally slowed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic that put a stop to most badminton activities in Nigeria and the period the Federation elections were delayed.
