After a poor start in the opening game against Lithuania at the Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Group III event that kicked off at the SEB Arena in Vilnius on Tuesday, Nigeria’s Adesuwa Osabuohien and Oyinlomo Quadri won their match against Kososvo.
Adesuwa Osabuohien, who is based in US, defeated 6-1,6-4 Bashota Donika while Oyinlomo Quadri overcame Lekaj Adrijana 6-2,4-6,6-0 to record Nigeria’s first and second win at the ongoing tournament.
According to Nigeria Tennis Federation on facebook, Adesuwa Osabuohien’s victory makes her the first Nigerian to ever win a Fed cup match for Nigeria, while Oyinlomo Quadri’s win against Lekaj Adrijana makes her the second Nigerian.
The doubles event was a walk-in park for the duo of Adesuwa Osabuohien and Oyinlomo Quadri as they conquered Kososvo 6-2, 6-1.
In Nigeria’s first game against Lithuania, the tie was harder than the shoreline suggests as No. 2 singles player Iveta Dapkute had to come back from a set down to defeat Adesuwa Osabuohien 4-6 6-2 6-4 and the doubles match was a narrow 6-4 7-5 win for the host.
