Nigerian chess prodigy Issac Okeke receives International Master Certificate

Less than a year after becoming one of the youngest Nigerian chess player to achieve an international master status, 18-year-old Nigerian chess prodigy, Issac Okeke, has received his certificate of title from the world governing body of Chess (FIDE) at the closing ceremony of DanhyPro Toco U20 Junior Chess Championship held in Lagos.

 

The chess brainiac, who won the U18 category of the 2019 African youth individual chess was honored by the Nigeria Chess Federation, who was represented by the Federation’s Vice President Prince Adeyinka Adewole at the event.

 

In his reactions to receiving the certificate of award, the elated Issac Okeke says he feels so happy.

“I feel very happy and I thank God for everyone that have been supporting me so far, so I feel great.

 

In attaining the status of an international chess master, Issac describe the steps as a stressful one.

 

“ it has taken up to like ten years but I thank God for everything , it’s has been a stressful journey so far but i thank God because the journey isn’t over yet , there is still more hard work to be done “

 

While addressing chess players during the presentation Prince Adeyinka Adewole commended the recipient describing the feat as a remarkable one but there is still a lot of work to be done to attain the position of an International Grandmaster.

 

“ …a young man less than 20 years is now an international master  , he has only one step to become a grandmaster but he still has a lot of work to be do but we need to encourage him , he deserves a standing ovation “.

 

 

The 18-year-old was also one of the recipient, who received Prize money for exceptional display at the DanhyPro Toco U20 Junior Chess Championship for winning bronze medal .
