Board Member, Nigeria Gymnastics Federation, Omowunmi Olalere has commended the performance of Gymnasts at the just concluded National Youth Games that took place in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Gymnasts from 15 states and the Federal Capital Territory competed across the disciplines at the two day event held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Ilorin.
In an interview with Journalists , the Chairperson of the South West Gymnastics Association, Omowunmi Olalere has vouched for the Federation to develop the sport by creating more awareness and platforms for young talents to take their careers to the next level.
Impressed with the quality of the competition at National Youth Games in Ilorin, the board member of the Gymnastics Federation stated that the under 15 competition had enabled the states to showcase young talents and the federation will create opportunities for the athletes to develop and compete at the highest level.
While expressing optimism that some of the Gymnasts will represent Nigeria at the Olympics and other international competitions, the South West Zonal Representative on said the GFN will encourage more states to embrace the sport through grassroots initiatives and developmental competitions.
Olalere averred that Nigeria have huge potential in gymnastics, and with necessary support from government and corporate organizations, the Federation will take the sport to a greater height for the country to become a force to reckon with in the world.
Delta state top the medal table of the 6th National Youth Games with seven Gold and two bronze medals , FCT came second with five Gold , five silver and three bronze medals while Ogun finishef third with two gold and two silver medals .
