The immediate past Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung has expressed his disappointment over the theft of the intellectual property of the late Sports Journalist Olajide Fashikun by Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The intellectually property, “Adopt an athlete“ initiative was launched by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, On December 16, 2019, at the Civic Center in Victoria Island.
But according to Solomon Dalung in a tribute titled “BETRAYED EVEN IN DEATH “ said the property is a private sector initiative of the Late Olajide Fashikun, who he described as a courageous advocate against corruption, insecurity, and social injustice in Nigerian Sports.
The Plateau State Administrator further narrated how the initiative was birth on August 2018 with his contribution of his one month salary of 800,000 thousand naira paid directly to Chief Mary Onyali , who he described as a collaborator in theft of the property .
In Paragraph three of the tribute, Solomon Dalung narrated how the intellectual property was stolen.
“…your ideas have been stolen, relaunched with fanfare in Lagos without even acknowledging your name, not even your close associate, Mary Onyali, who is now in proper position to defend your legacies “.
The former Chairman of Langtang South Local Government also mentioned that before the passage of the Late Journalist, the “adopt your athletes” initiative has benefited some athletes who were set for training grants.
Since the tribute was published on the Facebook page of Solomon Dalung Foundation, there have not been any official responds by the Minister of Youths and Sports, the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports and other stakeholders to the allegations.
