Edo State Government has boosted the morale of his star athlete, Enoch Adegoke with 10,000 dollars. The state Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu who hosted Adegoke on behalf of Governor Godwin Obaseki described it as ” a token of our gesture to make you comfortable and remain focused while in Tokyo “.
The Edo State born Adegoke is one of Nigeria’s medal hopefuls in the field and track events during the 2020 Summer Olympics scheduled to hold in Tokyo, Japan.
President, Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau , who was part of the hosting of Adegoke personally pledged an SUV for any of the Nigerian athletes that come back home with a good medal.
“I’m talking about a tear rubber SUV, not a tokunbo. This is aside what the Federation has for the athlete that wins a gold medal. I promised Blessing Okagbare during the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and it was redeemed. This cannot be different,”
In his words of encouragement, the Deputy Governor told Adegoke that ” the state government is behind you in prayers, supporting you with the Edo spirit. We have to give you all the encouragement so that you are not distracted by anything, so, remain focused. With your decipline and hardwork, backed by our collective prayers, you will make us proud in Tokyo and come back home with medal to celebrate you.”
In his response, the obviously elated Adegoke assured that he was going to put in his best to make Edo State and indeed, Nigeria proud during the games. According to him, ” i really feel honoured and excited. I will not disappoint the state and Nigeria.
He confessed that the road to Tokyo Olympics was actually bumpy, adding that the God who has seen him this far will surely see him through and come out victorious at the end of the games. ” it has not been easy for me to come this far but I thank God for bringing me to this stage and i know that He will see me through. I’m grateful to the state government for this great support which I believe will go a long way in boosting my moral during the competition,”
The hosting was done virtually because Adegoke was already in Germany where he was expected to leave for Tokyo, Japan. He won a gold medal in 100 meters during the last National Sports Festival held in the ancient city of Benin, Edo State.
